Richard P. Petersen

Richard Pete Petersen, 79, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, November 16, 2016 surrounded by his loving family. Visitation will be from 12:00 to 4:00 pm on Sunday, November 20, 2016 at the Runge Mortuary. Funeral will be at 10:00 am on Monday, November 21, 2016 at the Runge Mortuary. He was born on October 12, 1937 in Davenport the son of Peter and Mabel (Bein) Petersen. He was a graduate of Davenport High School. Richard was united in marriage to Janet Hasson on April 4, 1974. He farmed all his life selling Golden Harvest seed corn and never missing a day of work. Later he loved driving the Riverbend Transit Bus. Richard took great pride in racing his horses that he trained. He was the president of the Quarter Horse Association. He enjoyed NASCAR and watching baseball games. One of his favorite pass times was picnics at the farm with family and friends. His great joy was coaching and watching his children and grandchildren play sports and spending time with them. He also was a proud 4H supporter. Those honoring his memory include his loving wife of 42 years, Janet; children: Mike (Heidi) Halferty, Stockton, IA, Michelle (Kevin) Welch, Walcott, IA and Manette (Aurelio) Trevino, Blue Grass, IA; sister, Marilyn Frahm, Davenport, IA; grandchildren: Bryce, Cody, Austin, Wylie, Alexis, Kylie, Zachary and Tyler; and many sisters and brothers-in-laws. Richard was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Robert. The family would like to express deep gratitude to the staff at Manor Care on Utica Ridge and Genesis Hospice including his hospice nurses, Tami and Leslie, and physicians, Dr. Stephen Thompson and Dr. Thomas Staley for their care and compassion.
