Richard John Skahill

Richard J. Skahill, 88, of Bettendorf, Iowa, passed away April 23, 2017, at Clarissa C Cook Hospice, Bettendorf, Iowa. Per his wishes cremation rites have been accorded. A Memorial visitation will be held from 4-7 pm Thursday April 27, 2017 at the Runge Mortuary. A private family inurnment will be held at Davenport Memorial Park at a later date. Richard was born November 02, 1928 in Cascade, Iowa to Charles Joseph and Margaret Josephine (Lahner) Skahill. Richard enlisted in the US Marine Corps from 1947 to 1948. He then enlisted in the US Army serving from 1951 to 1953. Richard married Mary Fladlien in July 1951, she died on February 3, 1968. He married Ann Simons on July 07, 1973 in Davenport, Iowa. In addition to their growing family Richard and Ann opened their home and hearts to foster children by becoming foster parents. Richard was past president of the Davenport Bowling Association. He enjoyed bowling and golfing. Richard had a love for wood working. His talents could be found all over his home whether it was home projects or furniture designs. One of Richard and Ann’s greatest joys was spending evenings out socializing with neighbors. Richard dearly loved his grandchildren and attended their sporting events on a regular basis. Those left to honor his memory include his children, Steve (Janet) Skahill , Elizabeth Antonacci, Suzy(Jon) Wessel, Julie(Rob) Reinart, Brandon(Lacy) Skahill, Bill(Jody) Osborn; Eleven grandchildren; numerous great grandchildren and one sister; Kay Kramer. Richard was preceded by his parents, 2 wives, 2 sons Matthew and Larry, and 2 brothers, Fred and Allen.
