

A Celebration of Life will be held between 1:00-3:00 P.M. on Saturday, October 18, 2025, at the Runge Mortuary & Crematory, Davenport. Cremation rites have been accorded. He will be laid to rest at a later date in Forest Home Cemetery in Mt. Pleasant, Iowa. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to a charity of your choice or Clarissa Cook Hospice House. Robert was born on October 20, 1938, in Armada Township, MI to Paul Potter and Thelma Powell. He started playing touch football in 7th grade and tackle football in 9th grade. Bob graduated from West Rockford, went to Iowa Wesleyan, where he played football and stayed at Cranes Funeral Home, for his room and board, where he met his wife, Jean. He was united in marriage to Jean (Looker) Potter, on August 12, 1962, in Mt. Pleasant, IA for 62 years.
His career as a football coach started in the early 1960's and included Mt Pleasant, Iowa, Arizona, Dav Central, Dav West, Newton, North Scott and C R Washington, retiring after 40 years. He also taught drivers’ education. He founded Potters Putters in 2002, it's still going strong today at 40 plus members consisting of mostly retired teachers, he found joy on the golf course.
Bob loved spending time with his immediate and extended family in Mt. Pleasant during family gatherings.
The family would like to extend special thanks to Dr. Sorenson and the staff at Clarissa Cook Hospice House. Special thanks to their neighbors in Walcott who looked after him and mom and his special friend Hudson who came and checked on him every night with a hug.
Bob is survived by his daughters, Nancy (Bob) Juarez and Karin (Jerry) McCray, of Davenport, IA; grandchildren, Lindsey (Ben) Whitford, Andrew (Hannah) Juarez, and Josh (Kara) McCray; great-grandchildren, Liam Whitford, Avery Whitford, and John McCray; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife Jean.
