Bob was born May 16, 1953, in Philadelphia, PA, to Richard and Marie Yates. The family moved to Iowa in the mid-fifties, where Bob resided until moving to California in 1987. He returned to Iowa several years later, began a career in the trucking industry and eventually started his own business as an owner/operator.
Throughout his life, Bob’s big personality and wonderful sense of humor was enjoyed by all who came into contact with him. His ability to share a laugh in the good times and lighten the difficult moments with humor persisted even through his illness and treatment and we loved and admired him all the more for that.
Bob earned his pilots’ license and enjoyed nothing more than spending time in flight whenever he could. He later was a member of the Davenport Radio Control Society flying club and spent many happy hours flying remote-controlled aircraft with his friends.
Bob’s wonderful dog, Sadie, provided great joy and comfort to him for years prior to her death in 2018, but by far the most important relationship in his life was with God. His strong faith sustained and comforted him through every one of life’s challenges, including this last one. He will be greatly missed by all his family and friends.
Those left to honor his memory include his siblings Judy Lannan, Iowa City, IA, Richard (Georgina) Yates, Davenport, IA, Ronald (Angela) Yates, Saluda, NC, Robyn (Tom) Hardisty, Lakewood, CA; nieces and nephews Lisa (Peter) Manesis, Iowa City, IA, Kris (Tony) Cherveny, Rock Island, IL, Richard Yates, Davenport, IA, Scott (Gloria) Yates, Rock Island, IL, Kara Thompson, Lakewood, CA, and John Hardisty, Lakewood, CA.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents, Richard and Marie Yates.
