

A memorial service for Samuel C. Kresse, 87, of Davenport will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, April 23, 2017 at the Unitarian Church, 3707 Eastern Ave., Davenport. Visitation will be from 1:00 p.m. until service time at the church. Inurnment will be in Rock Island National Cemetery at a later date. Mr. Kresse died on Friday, April 7, 2017 at Crest Health Center in Davenport. Samuel was born March 13, 1930 in Muscatine, IA. His parents, Chester and Beulah (Lefever) Kresse moved to Davenport in 1936. He graduated from Davenport High School and returned there to teach after graduating from the University of Iowa. On July 2, 1962, he married Elaine Campbell at the Unitarian Church in Davenport. Samuel served in the U.S. Air Force, worked as a U.S. Mail Carrier, and was a partner in Blue Devil Enterprises LTD. In the community, Sam was a member of his church, Quad City Interfaith, Davenport NAACP, and the Civil War Round Table. He particularly enjoyed mystery trips with the grandkids and Roads Scholars trips to National Parks, Civil War battlefields, and casinos. He and Sam II attempted to visit every Major League Baseball Park. Sam was an avid Iowa Hawkeyes, Cincinnati Reds, Chicago White Sox, Bears and Bulls fan. He also enjoyed getting away from Elaine to go on Central Men’s Club baseball trips, as well as playing cards with his buddies and farming with his business partners, Roger Crooks and Dennis Hoffnagle. He is survived by his Wife: Elaine Kresse of Davenport; 5 Sons: Scott (Bonny) of Des Moines, Bill (Amy) of Fort Collins, CO, Brad, Bryan, and Sam II (Dawn), all of Davenport; Grandchildren: Travis (Priya), Tarl, Brittini, Malcolm, Dax Kresse, Nicole (Rusty) Robb, Cory (Monica) Capper, and Chris (Chelsea) Capper; Great-Grandchildren: Koltin Todd, Akash and Ronik Robinson, Eleanor, Frederick, and Mable Capper, and Nolan Robb; Nieces: Becky (Art) Hamann Wentworth, Lisa (Ken) Hamann Farrar, and Kathy Hamann. Daughter’s-in-law and mother’s of grandchildren and great grandchildren all became very special to Sam with a family of boys. In addition to his parents, Sam was preceded in death by his sister, Janet Hamann, two nephews, and a great-granddaughter. In keeping with Sam’s loving and generous spirit, it was his decision to be an organ and tissue donor with the Iowa Donor Network so that others may live. The family would like to thank Genesis – West, 5th floor nursing staff and the staff at Crest for their concern, care, and support. Memorials may be made to UUCQC (Unitarian Church) or to the Ridgecrest Employee Christmas Fund.
