Sandy was born on March 31st, 1942, in Davenport, Iowa to Alberta (Day) and James O’Connor. From a young age, Sandy took on the role of both friend and caretaker, guiding her two younger sisters with love, grace, and laughter.
Sandy met the love of her life, Cary Dalton, during a hayrack ride in September 1960, and they married on May 28th, 1961. Their union, built on deep love, respect, and commitment, was an example to all who knew them. They didn’t have much, but they raised a family with “a whole lot of love”.
Sandy dedicated her life to her family, creating a home filled with warmth, laughter, and kindness. She loved spending time with family and friends, watching the birds, doing puzzles, playing cards, and crocheting kitchen towels. Sandy had an affinity for earrings and anything that “sparkled” in light. She always had a hug waiting, a hand to hold, and a smile that made everyone feel at home. Sandy made people feel seen, safe, and loved, simply by being herself.
Sandy is remembered as a loving and inspiring wife, mom, grandma, and sister. Her deep kindness, gentle spirit, and enduring love touched all who knew her.
Sandy was preceded in death by her parents; son, Wesley Dalton; and sister, Trudy Devine. Those left to cherish her memory include her husband, Cary; children, Jesse (Debbie) Dalton, Kelly (Lisa) Dalton, Jennifer (Russell) Hoeper; grandchildren, Joshua, Justin, Jared, Megan, Newelle, Ellie, Gabby; 16 great-grandchildren; and sister, Linda (Jack) Rowan. She is also survived by many nephews and nieces and “adopted” granddaughters, Jessie and Kaiya.
Per Sandy’s wishes, cremation rites will be accorded. A celebration of Sandy’s life will be held at a later date. Online condolences may be left at: www.rungemortuary.com.
