

Per Shawn’s wishes, cremation rites will be accorded. Memorials may be made in Shawn’s name to the University of Iowa Stead Family Children’s Hospital or the Abbey Center Bettendorf.
Shawn was born on June 5, 1965, in Olney Illinois to Sanford Bailey and Sharon (Tracy) Bailey of Oblong. Shawn was a 1983 graduate of Oblong High School. From an early age, Shawn was inspired by his hometown dentist, Dr. Slaughter, to pursue a career in dentistry. He graduated from Eastern Illinois University with a Bachelor of Science degree in 1987, then enrolled in the University of Iowa College of Dentistry. After graduating in 1991 with a DDS, he accepted a general practice residency at Yale University Hospital. Shawn’s goal was to become an oral surgeon, so he completed his MD at SUNY Brooklyn in 1996. He then completed his educational career at Harvard-Massachusetts General Hospital in 1998.
Shawn was a partner at Spring Park OMFS in Davenport Iowa for 20 years, retiring in 2017. Shawn was a kind and quiet man who left an indelible mark on the hearts of all who were fortunate to know him. He avidly followed the University of Iowa athletics and the St. Louis Cardinals.
Shawn leaves behind a brother, Eric (Kelly) Bailey; friend, Scott (Georgia) Hansen; their children, Nick and Lindsey to whom he was “Uncle Shawn”; cousins, Debbie, Lori, Peggy, Doug, Jamie, Jason, Tony; Uncle Larry (Brenda) Bailey. Shawn also leaves behind his brothers and sisters in AA; lots of friends and former colleagues and caregiver Emma.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Sanford Bailey and Sharon Stallings, as well as his Aunt Norma and Uncle Larry Lorance.
There will be a private family celebration of Shawn’s life at a later date.
