A family gathering to celebrate her life will be held at a later date. The Runge Mortuary is assisting the family with arrangements. Memorials may be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital or to The Shriners Hospital for Children.
Shirley was born on December 28, 1926 in North Dakota, the daughter of Samuel Albert and Ella Louise (Brunnemeyer) Schrock.
She was the matriarch of the family. She was a very loving mother and adored her grandchildren and her great grandchildren. Her great grandchildren remember how she would “mess” with them and make sure their clothes were laying just right. She may not have remembered them in the end but the love between them still showed. Shirley enjoyed crossword puzzles, knitting, crocheting, sewing, and playing games with her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Those left to honor her memory include her children, Carolyn (Ron) Holm, Cindy (Vic) Simon, Mike (Carol Merchant) Doeppke, and Diane Hopper; grandchildren, Chad (Lisa), Chris (Jill) and Craig (Tabitha) Simon, Laurie (Jared) Joens-Jamerman, Sara (Jonah) Bryan, and Michael David, Donnie Eugene, Michelle Renee “Fred”, Paula, Amanda, Tammy and Chrissy Doeppke, and Richard Arviso; 19 great grandchildren; sister Patricia (Robert) Watson, and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband Peter Doeppke, grandson Michael Collins, sister Norma Jeanne Erickson, and brother David E. Schrock.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to Manor Care, Bettendorf for all their great care and the stories they shared.
