Shirley Ruth Holgorsen

Shirley Ruth Holgorsen, 83, of Davenport, IA, passed away on Wednesday, January 29, 2025 at UI Health Care Medical Center. Per her wishes, cremation rites have been accorded. A memorial visitation will be held from 1 to 4 p.m. on Tuesday, February 18, 2025 at Weerts Funeral Home with a funeral service to follow beginning at 4 p.m. Memorial contributions may be left to Quad City Symphony, Illinois Iowa Center for Independent Living (IICIL), or any organization that supports diabetic or kidney health and research.

Shirley was born on April 8, 1941, in Perry, IA, to Marjorie (Kinsey) and Ivan McKown. She graduated from Bettendorf High School in 1959. During Shirley’s life she held may different working roles. She retired from Iowa Illinois Center for Independent Living (IICIL) where she worked with an amazing group of people, and especially loved helping people.

On October 20, 1962, she married William Holgorsen II, and together they built a life full of love and shared memories. He preceded her in death in 2006. Shirley was known for her infectiously positive attitude, cheerful outlook on life, and her quirky personality. She was a woman of boundless energy and determination. She loved playing bridge, golfing, and spending time with her family. Shirley was a regular attendee of the Quad City Symphony, Festival of Trees, and the Beaux Arts Fair. Shirley was an integral part of the Bix Beiderbecke Race, serving on the starting line committee.

Among those left to remember Shirley include her children; Vanessa Burch, David Holgorsen, William (Marsha) Holgorsen III, John Higgins; grandchildren, Erika Mander, Kyle Holgorsen, Brady Holgorsen, Nathan Prieto, Adam (Bailey) Geiger, Marissa Geiger, Logan Geiger; 7 great-grandchildren.

Shirley was preceded in death by her parents; husband, William Holgorsen II; beloved son, Scott Holgorsen, and her siblings, Don McKown, Sherry Baker, and Barbara Lundgren.
