Simon C. Gripp, 93, of Davenport, passed away Tuesday, March 22, 2011 at Davenport Good Samaritan Center. Following cremation, no visitation or service is planned. Memorials may be made to Genesis Hospice. Online condolences may be made at www.rungemortuary.com.
Mr. Gripp was born July 19, 1917 in Davenport, the son of Frank and Eliza (Thompson) Gripp. He served in the National Guard from 1937-1938. On June 16, 1939, he married Dorothy Black in Davenport, IA.
He was formerly employed by Burlington Truck Lines and retired from Oscar Mayer in 1982.
His memberships included Good Sam RV Club, National Antique Auto Club, and he was a life member of the Davenport Moose Lodge. He restored a 1929 Model A Ford, owned a 1921 4-Door Dodge Sedan and was an avid bowler.
Survivors include his wife, Dorothy; a son and daughter-in-law, Terry L. and Jennifer Gripp, both of Davenport; two granddaughters; and four great granddaughters.
He was preceded in death by ten brothers and sisters.
