Tom Rios

Tom Rios, 79, of Davenport Iowa passed away on February 28, 2025, after a valiant fight against covid/pneumonia. A celebration of life will be held on Saturday March 22, 2025, at the Walcott America Legion, 121 Bryant Street Walcott Iowa from 12pm – 3pm. Tom was born on January 13, 1946, in Temple Texas to Henry and Benina (Marquez) Rios. He graduated from Regina High School and received a bachelor's degree from the University of Iowa. Go Hawks! Tom served in the US Army from 1966-1969 He was united in marriage to Wendy Wertzbaugher on June 12, 1976. They enjoyed 48 years of marriage.

Tom taught physical education and coached at Solon, Lone Tree, Jesup, Hamilton IL, Saydel and Davenport schools. He was a member of the Quad Cities Pickleball Club and had a passion for pickleball, golf, playing the guitar, singing, cheering on the Hawkeyes and rooting for his grandchildren at their sporting events.

Those left to cherish his memory include his wife, Wendy; his children who he was very proud of, Thomas Rios D.C., Renee (Ryan) Ott; grandchildren, Huxley Ott, Juniper Ott and Atlas Rios. Tom loved his grandchildren with all his heart. He enjoyed a close bond with his family, John (Gerri) Rios, Frank Rios, Roy (Diane) Rios, Henry Rios, Benny (Margaret) Rios and Mary (Ed) Sekula.
