

Velma Louise King, 93, of Danville, IA; formerly of Davenport, passed away Sunday, May 4, 2014 at the Danville Care Center in Danville, IA. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, May 8, 2014 at 11:30 am at The Runge Mortuary. Visitation will be Thursday, from 10:30 am until 11:30 am at the mortuary. Burial will be in Davenport Memorial Park Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Grace United Methodist Church in Davenport. Online condolences may be left at www.rungemortuary.com. Velma was born March 19, 1921 at home in rural Des Moines County Iowa, the daughter of Emil and Marie (Wagner) Wilke. She was united in marriage to Russell Kenneth King on March 19, 1949 in Davenport; he preceded her in death in June 2000.
She attended Long Creek #1 Grade School and graduated from Danville High School, Class of 1939. She worked at IOP, Wells Lamont Glove Factory and then became a professional seamstress. She was a member of Grace United Methodist Church in Davenport. She enjoyed her family, her church and cooking, crocheting, quilting, embroidery, jigsaw puzzles and loved to laugh. Those left to honor her memory include her sister, Mildred Thomas, Danville, IA; nieces: Sheila Kroll, West Burlington, Libby Pate, Davenport, Nancy Rowley, Burlington, Connie Nealey, Danville and Martha Manning, Pittsford, NY; nephews: Jerry Lee, Burlington, Steve King, Davenport, Bob King, Davenport, Lance Thomas, Middletown, IA, Rodney Lee, Show Lo, AZ, Craig Lee, Austin, TX and Daniel King, Ankeny, IA; many great nieces and nephews; daughter-in-law, Juanita King, Taylor Ridge, IL; seven grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, son, Arnold King, sister, Lola Lee, two nephews and one great grandchild.
