Walter LeRoy Hartley, 62, of Port Byron, passed away Monday, Feb. 20, at his home. Walter was born March 18, 1954, in Iowa City to his father, Stanley, and mother, Mildred. He was a 1972 graduate of Davenport West High School. He served in the United States Air Force.
Walter had a wide range of interests that included music, writing, poetry, and many other pursuits. He was never happier than when he was playing his guitar and singing songs with family members, spending time with his many nieces, nephews, and grandchildren, or talking with others about his faith. He also enjoyed cheering on his beloved Chicago Bears, Cubs, Bulls, and Blackhawks, as well as the Iowa Hawkeyes.
He is survived by his three sons, Jay, Jon, and Chris, nine grandchildren, and siblings Stanley Hartley, Shirley Miller, Bonnie Sawdey, Phil Hartley, Iris Hartley, Joseph Heck, and Jennifer Maxwell. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Jody Hoeck.
