Wayne E Thomason

Wayne Edwin Thomason, age 95, passed away at Crest Health Center at Ridgecrest Village in Davenport, Iowa on January 12, 2022. According to his wishes, his body was donated to University of Iowa hospital for medical research and no visitation service or memorial will be held.

Wayne was born December 4, 1926, in Davenport to Ed and Irene Thomason. He married Mary Lou Winchell in July of 1949 in Davenport. He raised his children in the same house in which he grew up.

During the Second World War, he served in the Navy aboard the U.S.S. Vulcan, a repair ship. It was a favorite part of his life and he enjoyed the many friendships formed during his service.

Wayne worked for the Davenport school system 20 years, last serving as parts manager for the maintenance department. He retired in 1988. Previously, he worked for the Bendix Corp., BEC Pressure Controls, and Tri-City Lithograph and Printing Co.

He enjoyed following the Iowa Hawkeye football and basketball teams and was an avid fan. He also enjoyed playing cards with his many friends. He particularly enjoyed introducing his children and grandchildren to the game of “joker.” There were many spirited games and it was enjoyed by all.

Survivors include his children, Terry (Cindy), David, and Lori Johnson (Kevin); grandchildren, Doug (Bri), Drew (Jessi), Christine, Ashley and Colleen; and great-grandchildren, Luke, Ry, Zach, Mabry, Evan, Whitney and Keagan.
