Wilbur F. Godfrey

Funeral services for Wilbur F. Godfrey, 83, of Davenport, will be 11:00 am on Tuesday at Cunnick-Collins Mortuary, Davenport. Family will greet friends on Tuesday from 10:00 am to 11:00 am at the Mortuary. Burial will follow at Davenport Memorial Park Cemetery, Davenport where military rites will be conducted by the American Legion #711, Blue Grass.Wilbur passed away on Friday, October 9, 2009 at the Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House, Bettendorf.Wilbur Franklin Godfrey was born on February 24, 1926 in Davenport, the son of William and Carrie (Huff) Godfrey. He married Margaret I. Winzelman in July of 1952 in Rock Island. She preceded him in death on February 8, 1991. He then married Virginia Peters in December of 1993 in St. Angelo, TX, they were later divorced. She preceded him in death on July 19, 2009. He worked as a truck driver for Peoria Cartage and Standard Forwarding, retiring in 1988.He was a member of the American Legion #711, Blue Grass, West Side Assembly, Davenport and Local Teamsters Union #371 for 45 years.He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II where he received two Bronze Stars.Survivors include his son; Wilbur “Chris” Godfrey of Davenport, 2 grandchildren; Joseph Godfrey, Kyle Godfrey, a great-grandson; Kincaid, all of Davenport, step-daughter; Sue (William) Baumbach of Pleasant Valley, step-sons; Wayne (Jean) Peters of Davenport, and Jay (Vicky) Peters of Bloomington,IL.He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister, Viola Potter, and brother, Bill Godfrey.
