

A service to celebrate the life of William G. Boots, “Boots”, 76, of Davenport, will be held at 3:30 p.m. on Thursday, December 11, 2014 at the Colona First Southern Baptist Church, Colona, IL. A private inurnment with military honors will be held at a later date at Davenport Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will greet friends from 2:00 p.m. until service time at the church. Mr. Boots went to be with the Lord on Sunday, December 7, 2014 at the Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House in Bettendorf following a very brief illness. Cunnick-Collins Mortuary and Cremation Service is assisting the family with arrangements.William Gordon Boots was born on April 7, 1938 in Davenport, IA, the son of Sidney and Bernadine (Lyon) Boots. Following his graduation from Davenport High School he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps serving much of his time between Camp Pendleton, CA and in Subic Bay, Philippines. Following the completion of his military duties he married Barbara E. Klinkhammer on April 8, 1961 in Davenport. Throughout most of his working career he owned and operated Midwest Automated Time Systems. Following his retirement, he worked at Home Hardware in Davenport and also delivered flowers for Kathi’s Creations.Mr. Boots was an active member of Faith Fellowship Baptist Church, served as past president of the Military Vehicle Preservation Association, restored a 1952 M38-A1 Jeep, and participated in the Trans-Continental Motor Convoy in 2009. He was active with the Illowa Detachment of the Marine Corps League, volunteered frequently at the Good Samaritan Care Center in Davenport and Camp Conestoga. He also served as the director of “DUQC” Disciples Uniting in the Quad Cities which successfully built the Morning Star Community and Residence for low income seniors in Moline, IL. His hobbies included reading, fishing and gardening.Surviving members of the family include – his Wife: Barbara of Davenport; 4 Daughters: Bonnie Boots, Becky Boots (Shawn Lang), and Brenda (Brian) Simmonds all of Davenport, and Jean (Matthew) Overstake of Ft. Worth, TX; 2 Brothers: Sidney (Ardella) Boots of California and Fred (Faye) Boots of Davenport; 11 Grandchildren; 10 Great-Grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.Mr. Boots was preceded in death by his parents, a sister: Mary Lou, and 2 brothers, Robert, and Elvin at birth.In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the family.
