Bill was born on June 20, 1948 in Atlanta, Georgia, the son of William Clyde Greenway and Marion Baker Greenway Stevens. Bill graduated from Tucker High School in 1966 and received his B.A. degree in Marketing and Management at West Georgia University in 1972. He married Brenda Rock on November 24, 1973 in Rome, Georgia and they had two children, Billy and Kay. His first job out of college was with Sears in the management training program in Vero Beach, Florida. He then worked for Knight Ridder Newspapers as Circulation Manager in Miami, Florida, Johnston City, Tennessee and Columbus, Georgia. His beloved and final career was in sales with Textron, Inc. where he retired in 2013 after 17 years. He was awarded Salesman of the Year in 1995 and 1996. He also enjoyed being an instructor with Dale Carnegie on evenings and weekends.
Bill met his second wife, Ann Michele Crowder, in 1999. They were married on December 26, 2006 in South Lake Tahoe, California with their four children present. His true passions were spending time with his family, watching the Georgia Bulldogs, playing golf with family and friends, cooking on his Green Egg, entertaining at their pool, gardening, and traveling extensively. Among all, Bill was a devoted and loving husband and father.
Bill and Ann lived in Marietta, Georgia for 17 years until they permanently moved to Davenport, Iowa in 2022. Bill was a board member at Oakdale Memorial Gardens and served as a precinct chair for the Scott County Republican Party at the time of his passing.
Bill was referred to by many as a true “southern gentleman.” He was hysterically funny and could entertain a dinner table or room for hours with silly, animated stories. The more you laughed, the funnier he got. He always took an interest in everyone he met and made them feel important and comfortable. He was an exceptional listener and communicator. His epitaph should read “Bill was one of the good ones”, as everyone who knew him said this. His life was truly well lived.
He is survived by his wife, Ann Michele Crowder, Davenport, Iowa; his son, William Clyde Greenway, III (Katie), Alexandria, Virginia; his daughter, Katherine Peche Trotta (Matt), Charlotte, North Carolina, and four grandchildren; his stepson, Jasen Alan Miller, Seattle, Washington; his stepdaughter, Vanessa Erario, (Jerry) Dallas, Georgia and four step grandchildren, as well as his brother, Gregory Greenway (Donna), Alpharetta, Georgia.
Visitation will be on Friday, December 12th, 2025 from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at Weerts Funeral Home, Davenport, Iowa. The Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, December 13th at 11:00 a.m. at Weerts. Burial will be at Oakdale Memorial Gardens.
