

William E. Johnson, 81, of Davenport, passed away Thursday, November 6, 2014 at Genesis Medical Center, East Campus. Funeral services will be held at 9:00 AM Monday, November 10, 2014 in the Runge Mortuary Chapel. Visitation will be held Sunday, November 9, 2014 from 4:00 – 7:00 PM at the mortuary. Burial will be at National Cemetery Rock Island, IL. The family requests, in lieu of flowers, that memorials may be left to Faith United Church of Christ, Jane’s Place Adult Daycare or Wisconsin Parkinson’s Association. Online condolences can be left at www.rungemortuary.com. William was born on August 20, 1933 in Rock Island, IL. He served in the Army during the Korean Conflict and was united in marriage to Janice Eckstein on October 10, 1954 in Kahoka, MO. William and Janice recently celebrated their 60th Wedding Anniversary. William owned and operated Blackhawk Printing where his three sons worked in the family business. He also worked as a purchasing agent at Desaulniers Printing for 21 years and was a sales representative at Miller Container, and retired from there after 23 years. He was a member of the Northwest Business Association. He was a coach with Davenport Little League and was involved with Cub Scouts. He was active in the Fraternal Order of the Elks and the Moose Lodge. William enjoyed golf, camping, fishing, traveling and spending winters in Florida. Due to the onset of Parkinson’s Disease, his ability to participate in many activities was limited. He was very active in his church, Faith United Church of Christ in Davenport, where he served on the church council that led to the merger of Berea Congregational Church and Sunnymead E&R. He is survived by his wife, Janice; three sons, Steven (Karen), Berryville, AR, David (Dyan), Waterloo, IA, and Christopher, Olathe, KS; and two granddaughters, Stephanie, San Diego, CA and Caroline, Shawnee, KS. William was preceded in death by his grandson, William Paul Johnson, and one brother and four sisters.
