Brad was born on March 15th, 1949 to Betty and Elmer Johnson in Spokane, WA. Brad was quickly followed by two younger brothers who became known as Betty’s three little boys. Brad graduated from Creston High School in 1967, and after high school went to Eastern Washington University and majored in art. Brad and Susan Kay Reed were married on Sept 28, 1968. They had two children together, Jill (Shane) Jones and Brian (Amey) Johnson and divorced in 1981.
Brad had many loves in his life: family, friends, music and art. He met the love of his life, Dana Brinkman, in 1984. They were married on July 13th, 1996 and remained married until his passing.
Brad had many interesting jobs in his career such as milk delivery, sawmill worker, retail store manager, cement plant operator, bartender, logger, swimming pool installer, farmer and as a custodian for the Spokane Public Schools. No matter what job he did it was in his DNA to work hard and do a good job. Although he had a lot of jobs, his most important was his artwork, which was well received and always interesting.
Brad is preceded in death by mother Betty Ulrich and father Elmer (Cactus) Johnson. Brad is survived by his wife Dana Jo Johnson, children Jill Jones (Shane) and Brian Johnson (Amey); two step-children Jeremy and Emilee Brinkman, grandchildren Gabriel, Kaitlin and Grant Jones, Bremen and Ayla Johnson, Bailee Amaral and Harper Sprague; brothers Melvin Moulton (Donna), Ted Gilman (Elaine), Bill Johnson (Janet), Terry Johnson (Donna); sisters Vicki Heitman (Richard), and Charlotte Etue (Steve): Aunt Alice Williams and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins, and his beloved dog Puddy
A fitting quote for Brad by Hunter S. Thompson is “Life should not be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a well-preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside in a cloud of smoke, thoroughly used up, totally worn out and loudly proclaiming “Wow, what a ride!”
