

Glenda attended Appleton School in Jerome, Idaho until mid-sixth grade and then moved to Addy, Washington with her sister Dixie, and brothers Galen and Jim. She lived on the family farm in Idaho and Washington working alongside her mother and father, and often rode her beloved Shetland pony, “Nicky.” She attended Summit Valley Middle School and graduated in 1957 from Chewelah High School, and was an avid member of the Chewelah High School Debate team and 4-H. Glenda graduated from Kenman Business School, Spokane, in 1957.
She met Del Chappell while in business school, and they married on September 29, 1957. They were married for 67 years. Three daughters were born: Roxane, Yvonne, and Janine. They moved many times as Del pursued his career as an electrical engineer, living in California and North Dakota; they moved to Wilbur, Washington in 1976. She began her working career in 1977 at Key Bank for seven years and Lincoln Mutual #3 for 25 years. She enjoyed working with the farming community.
Glenda was an active board member for the Wilbur Health Clinic for several years. Glenda attended the Congregational Church in Garrison, North Dakota, and the Presbyterian Church/ Wilbur Community Church; she was an active member of the women’s group for 54 years. She loved God, her family, gardening, knitting, crocheting, baking, walking, reading, going home to Jerome, Idaho, and family reunions in Addy, Washington. Her face would light up whenever she was with family. She was an avid sports fan with her grandchildren and a devoted fan of the Mariners, WSU and Gonzaga Basketball teams. She always said, “It’s more fun to win!”
Glenda is survived by her husband, Del, daughters Roxane Jones (Rick), Yvonne Bailey (Keith), Janine Carr (Michael); sister Dixie Simpson (Don), brothers Galen Miller (Jan), and Jim Miller (Cindy). Her grandchildren Krysta Llewellyn (James), Evan Jones (Ashleigh), Bryce Bailey (Becky), Tyler Bailey (Brienna) and Matthew and Anna Carr. Great grandchildren Kylie and Karsen LLewellyn, Jaxon and Quinn Jones, Everett and Eliza Bailey, Brayden and Brodie Bailey, and numerous nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of Life memorial service will be held Friday, October 4, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. at the Wilbur Community Church. Memorial gifts in remembrance of Glenda can be made to the Wilbur Community Church or charity of your choice.
