Ronald James Sherwood went to be with the Lord on April 28, 2026. Ron was born to Creighton and Marilyn (Draper) Sherwood on February 17, 1959. He joined siblings Randy, Sally and Cindy. Ron graduated from Wilbur High School in 1977. Ron attended Whitworth College where he played basketball. He graduated from Spokane Community College with a degree in Automotive Mechanics.
Ron was proud to be a 4th generation farmer in the Wheatridge area south of Wilbur. Ron joined the farm operation over 40 years ago working with his father and brother. His son Joshua became the 5th generation to join the farm. Ron took pride in being the shop mechanic, training his sons and the seasonal summer workers on how to weld, operate farm equipment and harvest the crops. He gained many special friendships with the young men he taught. Ron looked forward to the mornings he could have coffee with his mother, (who has lived on the family farm for over 95 years), before heading out to work.
Ron married the love of his life Rox Ann Smith on November 14, 1981. Ron and Rox Ann were blessed with 3 children: Lindsay Ann, Joshua James and Ronald Joel. Ron’s children were the center of his world, and he supported them in all their endeavors. He was so very proud of the adults they had become. The children spent many hours working alongside him on the family farm.
Family was the most important part of Ron’s life. He was so proud of his children and grandchildren. Ron was never happier than when being with his grandchildren or rooting them on in all their activities. Any time you mentioned the grandchildren, Ron broke out with a huge smile. Ron found great joy being with relatives and friends. Ron was always ready to help anyone in need. He was famous for his smoked jerky, homemade sausages and meat loaf that showed up often for friends and family. Ron enjoyed coaching his children’s basketball and baseball teams, taking his sons motorcross racing, and spending many days camping and boating at Lake Roosevelt. He spent many hours taking his children, grandchildren and their friends wake boarding, skiing and tubing. He was a WIAA Basketball Official. He was a member of the Wilbur Amateur Athletic Association. Elk hunting was another important part of Ron’s life. He looked forward to each October when he traveled to the Blue Mountains with friends and his sons. Setting up elk camp was one of the highlights of the trip. He taught his sons to deer hunt and in the last few years enjoyed hunting with some of the grandkids.
Ron is survived by his wife of 44 years Rox Ann, daughter Lindsay, sons Josh (Brooke) and Joel (Julie). Also survived by his grandchildren Creighton, Kami and Grace Debord, Weston and Harper Sherwood and Oakleigh and Knox Sherwood as well his mother Marilyn Sherwood and siblings Randy (Joanne), Sally and Cindy (Dave). Numerous relatives including aunts and cousins have survived Ron. Ron was preceded in death by his father Creighton, grandson Camden, parents-in-law Don and Mavis Smith, and brother-in-law Bruce Goodlake.
