October 19, 1948 – April 4, 2026
Shirli D. Miller, beloved mother, grandmother, and friend, passed away on April 4, 2026, in Spokane, Washington. She was 77 years old.
Shirli was born on October 19, 1948, at her family’s home in Creston, Washington, to Warren “Pooch” and Donna Vincent. She grew up on the family farm in Creston, where she developed a deep love for the land and the close-knit community that shaped her life. She graduated as salutatorian from Creston High School in 1966 and attended Washington State University.
In 1969, Shirli married the love of her life, Monte Miller, and together they built a wonderful life on their family ranch in Wilbur, Washington. She was a dedicated businesswoman, owning and operating Pure Country Insurance. In her younger years, Shirli was a competitive softball pitcher, known for her athleticism and team spirit. Outside of work, she found joy in beautifying her yard through landscaping and had a deep love for animals. She looked forward each year to the arrival of chipmunks, faithfully setting out sunflower seeds for them, and was delighted to discover where sunflower plants would unexpectedly spring up from their random plantings. She also loved gathering around the table for card games and other games with family and friends. Above all, she cherished every moment spent with the people she loved and the ranch life she and Monte called home.
One of Shirli’s most cherished gifts was her way with words. No card left her hands without a humorous rhyme, a funny story, or a cleverly reimagined song — and whether it was a birthday, get well, or Christmas card, recipients knew they were in for a smile. Her annual Christmas cards were especially beloved, eagerly anticipated by all who were lucky enough to be on her list.
Shirli is survived by her two sons, Lance (Heidi) Miller and Todd Miller; six grandchildren, Dustin (Liz) Miller, Kaylee (Troy) McCollum, and Morgan Miller; and Madison, Clayton, and Laura Miller; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins who will deeply miss her warmth and spirit.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Monte Miller (2021); her parents, Warren and Donna Vincent; her brother, Larry Vincent; and her sister, Jeanne Novotney.
Shirli’s gentle presence, her love of animals, her creative spirit, and her generous heart will be remembered by all who were fortunate enough to know her.
