

John Daniel (Danny) Shanahan, age 60 of Homosassa, FL passed away peacefully on December 27, 2022. Danny was born on September 4, 1962, in Alexandria, VA to John E and Goldia Shanahan and was raised in Bowie, MD from the age of three.
Danny was a graduate of Bowie High School and served in the Air Force for over 13 years with a primary specialty in Security Forces which led him to travel the world. During his tenure he was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, Humanitarian Service Medal, Small Arms Expert Marksmanship Ribbon/Rifle, Air Force Outstanding Unit Award, and the John Levitow Award among others. After leaving the military he spent the better part of 15 years as a private contractor supporting the military in Afghanistan. He retired in the Spring of 2020 and relocated to Central Florida to be near family.
Danny had a love of music and collecting guitars. He loved cooking and experimenting in the kitchen and prided himself in never using a recipe but perfecting every dish by taste and a creative imagination.
He was good-hearted and generous to both those closest to him and strangers alike. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
Danny is survived by his son Kean Shanahan, his sisters, Theresa Morauer, Dee and Sheila Shanahan as well as his niece and nephews, Kurt Morauer Jr, Lindsay Ainsworth, Doug Shanahan, Tim, Drew and Kevin Labbe and Anthony Bilotta. He is preceded in death by his parents John and Goldia Shanahan.
A graveside service will be held at Lakemont Memorial Gardens in Davidsonville, MD on July 6, 2023, at 12:45pm. May the Lord grant him eternal peace.
