In Loving Memory of Uncle Bren

My first impression of Uncle Bren was one of deep respect.
Though I only had the chance to meet him once or twice, he left a lasting mark.
He was welcoming, curious, and always ready with thoughtful conversation—whether about world affairs, politics, or even the rainfall stats in Vancouver (which he knew off the top of his head!).

He had this rare ability to make you feel seen and valued, even in a brief meeting.
Every word came with warmth, intelligence, and unwavering kindness.

I was so saddened to hear of his passing.
The world has lost a great communicator and a truly gentle soul.

My wife Sophia—his niece—has shared countless stories of her Uncle Bren.
Each one echoes what I felt: that he was a legend in the family.
A charismatic, thoughtful, and effortlessly funny man, full of grace and presence.

One thing that always stood out was how lovingly he spoke about his daughter, Shakira.
You could hear the pride in his voice.
It was clear that being her father was one of his greatest joys.

He was a light in his community and the spark at every family gathering.

Rest in peace, Uncle Bren.
Your legacy lives on through stories, laughter, and the love you shared so freely.
You will always be remembered—with love and deep respect.

To Joy, Shakera & Tamera and the family,

This was an amazing and very fitting remembrance.  You guys did a great job !!  Everything about it was so beautiful, from the songs chosen, to the speakers, the warmth easily felt albeit from my computer screen .  Brenton & Joy you did an incredible job with raising Shakera, to be a warm, good & kind human being.  She in turn gave that back to her dad.  I wish I had gotten to know Brenton because every memory shared showed him to be the kind of human being I want to know in this lifetime.  M ay all the good things about him bring laughter in the days ahead, even a smile, 
because you will all need it.  People like this are usually rare,  which I always thought of you as Joy.  Now it makes sense why you found each other.  Keeping you all in prayer, God speed.

My deepest sympathy and condolences to Joy, Shakera, Tamara, Sylvia and other relatives and friends of Brenton. I’m Joy’s friend and I have known Brenton for the past 47 years when he was at Transconex and I worked at Bank of Montreal,  I would attend parties that he held and eventually I met some of the family members especially Chunny. Brenton was such a beautiful soul, he had a great sense of humor, I’m blessed to have known him. Family and friends, remember memories of Brenton are a blessing, may he rest in peace.🙏🏽🙏🏽 😭

It is with mix feelings to day to reflect on the life of a true friend whom I met in 1973 through his very close childhood friend, Sylvester Hill o/c Silly (decreased March 2020).
Silly always referred to Brenton as his brother.
Brenton also regarded him as a brother as well and as such our relationship was close.
How can I forget the days of fishing, crab hunting and going to cricket matches to see his team winning and especially to see Silly makes his "century"😂😂.
May he now rest in peace and light perpetually shine on him .

Uncle Breton. From your Grand Nephew Adrian.Looking back on the times we spent and interacted even though I was a young boy I can remember you were alway a no none sense person to say the least!! A man of vigilance , strength,optimism, and determination. Never had a chance has, I would as an older person now to spend more time with you or see you as often as I could life has a way of setting people a part as we grow older and live and work in different parts of the world. But even with that being said my mind and my spirit always remembered you all the time! 

When I herd of the news of life was transitioning for you I made it my duty to keep in contact for the past years as I was at a point where I was now noticing this may be where life takes a different route and we may not be able to see each other before the hour will strike. It was great always hearing your voice and having conversations with you that alone made me felt as if you were beside me at all times the memories and times we spent in the country as a family will never be forgotten 

LOVE YOU UNCLE BRENTON! May the Good Lord grant you his blessings has you go into the other direction in life.

"Kaydian mi fren you guh tell you honey morning yet? Gwan and come, cause you know how she stay". We would sat in the garage  on the morning when he has  doctors appointment and talk about any and everything ! We created a real friendship talking about life ,playing dominoes, sharing our views on things. The many stories he would share of himself growing up reminded me so much of "younger me " . 
He's a real mckoy in my book, even my workers look at him that way . He could be meeting you for the first time and he will  be  talk with you as if he knows you for years .We would go to the dr visit , and as soon as he walk inn every one would want to hug him,  touch him and the room would just light's up! He was amazing!!!! 

He was better than me at dominoes even though . Even on the "sap weh drop" 4 to 4 .

You were my big brother, my protector, and Uncle. I will miss you dearly. You are now with your loving Mother, my beautiful grandma.

Uncle Bren, thank you for beautiful memories, framed in the corners of my mind and sealed in my heart. My youthful days are some of the bests with you. The time you made for me and listened to me was very precious. Your life was filled with adventure and lots of laughter. Thanks for sharing your love and light. Rest in peace dear uncle.

Uncle Bren holds a special place in my heart as well as my siblings. I will always remember his charming smile and his kindness . RIP, uncle Bren, you are well loved.

"Uncle Brenton" was a kind-hearted, gentle giant-a man whose presence brought a deep sense of comfort, warmth, & wisdom to everyone who knew him. He had a soul full of music & a heart full of kindness. His love for singing, cooking, & conversation made him the heartbeat of every gathering.
He preffered the simple joy of a home-cooked meal over eating out, & there was something special about waking up early to find him already in the kitchen preparing breakfast & dinner before anyone else stirred. He was always up before the sun, steady & dependable.
Brenton loved his Western movies, could talk for hours about current affairs-especially those close to home in Jamaica-& he shared his thoughts with a thoughtful passion. He enjoyed long walks & a scoop (or two) of icecream, simple pleasures that brought him joy.
He had his quirks too-always combing his hair just right, a small ritual that reflected the care he took in everything he did. He enjoyed the occassional sip of his favorite liquor back in the days & never missed a chance to buy a lottery ticket, always hopeful, always dreaming just a little. 
And while he was full of patience, he had one humorous pet peeve: he couldn't stand  gesticulations during a conversation-it always made us laugh. 
I had the distinct honor of having him walk me down the aisle on my wedding day a moment I will treasure forever. It was one of many ways he showed his love-not through grand gestures, but through steady heartfelt presence. 
He had a rare gift of connecting with everyone, no matter their age. Young or old, Brenton made you feel seen & welcomed.
We always looked forward to spending time with him during our many vacations. Though we weren't blood relatives, he treated us like family. His kindness never wavered.
The conversations between Gary & Brenton-those long, deep reasonings about every topic under the sun- are memories we'll cherish forever. They were moments of connection, wisdom & laughter.

I remember the first time meeting Brenton. 
He was larger than life. 
After pleasantries, his first question was, "yuh ungry"  and his booming laughter when I said I'm always hungry... 😊 then we went into the kitchen where he proceeded to cook "the best curry chicken" 
Then it was out to the man cave to talk about family. Friends. Politics. Countries. Art. Food. Fruit trees. The conversations were endless. 
Then there were the walks. He would say just around the block which sometimes turned into 5 or 6 blocks... 
Today I cannot see curry and not think about Brenton... 
Walk good my Brother. My Friend.

Uncle Bren was like a big brother to us growing rather than an Uncle. He was always supportive of his family members and he will be greatly missed.
