Agostinho was born on February 5, 1942 in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, to the late Agostinho Alvares (Sr.) and Anna (de Jesus) Alvares, their only child.
Agostinho lived his youth in Rio de Janeiro; he enjoyed sports, played tennis, soccer, volleyball, also practiced water sports such as swimming and water polo, competing throughout Brazil for the Regattas Guanabara Club (Clube de Regatas Guanabara, RJ). In the 60’s he served in the Brazilian Army as a Corporal during the military regime, finished college and graduated as an engineer.
In 1968 Agostinho married his beloved childhood friend and next-door neighbor Ana Lúcia (Barra Neto) Alvares, with whom he started a beautiful family of 2 children and his prodigious professional career at NCR (National Cash Register Co.), first in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, then in Puerto Rico, USA, moving to Ohio in 1973. He worked at NCR for 45 years as an engineer and instructor, from where he retired in 2001. He was brilliant in his career, a problem-solving leader who was highly respected by his peers.
Agostinho shared a deep love for his family, he was a proud and engaged father and his wife’s right-hand. At times being more introverted and at times hosting Brazilian social gatherings with his wife, he believed in God and exercised his faith very privately, especially after enduring the loss of his both children, Ana Cristina and Alexandre, to cystic fibrosis.
Agostinho is survived by his faithful and loving wife of 52 years, Ana Lúcia.
