

Major Bartholomew W. Flaherty, USAF (retired), 81 of Beavercreek, passed away Tuesday, April 24, 2018 at Hospice of Dayton with his wife at his side. He was preceded in death by his parents, Dermott and Margaret Flaherty, and a brother, Dermott J. Flaherty. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Gloria Petrosino Flaherty. His children also survive him. Mary Flaherty of MA, Christopher and wife Susan Skufca Flaherty of MD and Kelly Flaherty Clark and husband Stewart Clark of FL. visited Bart and Gloria in Beavercreek often and have all been with Bart during the last few weeks of his illness. Winifred Congdon, Casey Clark, Sarah Flaherty, Spencer Clark, Gwendolyn Congdon and Katherine Flaherty, his six grandchildren, also survive him. Bart was born and grew up in the Bronx as a Brooklyn Dodgers fan. Since his arrival in Beavercreek in 1976 he has been tirelessly cheering for the Cincinnati Bengals. Bart was retired from the US Air Force after 20 years of service. Among his assignments were four years (1963-1967) as a Section Commander at Squadron Officer School at Maxwell Air Force Base in Montgomery Alabama, one tour in Vietnam 1971-72), and four years (!972-1976) at The American Embassy in Bonn, Germany. Following retirement from the Air Force he earned a Master’s degree in counseling and was Director of Inpatient Care at Greene Hall for four years. He was a proud and loving father to his children and his beloved Gloria was his world. Bart was a friend of Bill W's for 43 years. Friends may call at the Tobias Funeral Home Beavercreek Chapel, 3970 Dayton-Xenia Rd, Beavercreek, 45432 on Wednesday evening, May 2, 2018 from 5 until 8 PM. Prayers will be held at the funeral home on Thursday, May3, 2018 at 9:15 AM with Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated by Fr. Terry Schneider at St. Luke Catholic Church, 1440 N. Fairfield Rd. Beavercreek, 45432 at 10 AM on Thursday, May 3, 2018. Interment will be in Dayton National Cemetery following the funeral.
