
Martin, Bernard O. (Butch), Centerville, Ohio passed away on December 22, 2022. He was born on May 30, 1931 to Clarence and Vera Martin. A 1950 graduate of Wilbur Wright High School where he was an outstanding Athlete in football and track. Butch went on to serve his country proudly in the United States Marine Corps. He retired from DP&L in 1987 where he served in various supervisory and management roles in electric construction.
He filled his days in retirement enjoying family, gardening, golf, swimming and traveling. He was a passionate fan of the Ohio State Buckeyes and Cincinnati Reds. Friends and family will remember Butch for his tireless work ethic and generous heart. He was always the first person to pick up and help when someone needed it, be it a home improvement project or a large volunteer event and he did it with a quick wit and a big smile. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Doris, and three siblings.
He is survived by his wife of 43 years Betty Lou, three children; Jackie (Collin) Brinkman, Shelley Kuflewski and Robert (Mary) Martin; seven grandchildren; Stephanie, Chris, Ben, Adam, Lucy, Audrey and Natalie; nine great grandchildren, and countless extended family members and friends. He was a member of St John’s UCC, American Legion Post #598 and Dayton-Liederkrauz-Turner.
Funeral Services 11 am Tuesday January 3, 2023 at the Tobias Funeral Home Far Hills Chapel 5471 Far Hills Ave at Rahn Rd. Entombment in Miami Valley Memory Gardens Mausoleum. Friends may call from 10-11am Tuesday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Salvation Army or St John’s United Church of Christ.
