

Shackleford, Betty Sue, age 93, passed away Saturday, September 23, 2017 at Pristine Nursing Center of Jamestown. She was born Betty Sue Hensley on June 11, 1924, in Balkin, Ky. to the late Benjamin (Daddy Ben) and Martha (Mamma Tump) Parman Hensley. Betty was preceded in death by her beloved spouse, Claude Shackleford and grandson, Benjamin Shackleford along with six siblings; Myrtle, Evelyn, Edward, Elwood, Eugene and Juanita. Left to cherish her memory, is her sister and best friend, Mary Lou Prewitt, her sons; Claude Edward Shackleford and wife Sandy, William Ben Shackleford (Dub) and wife Donna. Grandchildren; James Shackleford, Sherri Weekly and David Shackleford along with 5 great grandchildren and numerous very loved nieces and nephews. Betty was a follower of Jesus since the age of 15. A graduate of Hall H. S. Grey Knob, KY. She was a member of the glee club and the basketball team. At the age of 12 learned how to play the mandolin. As a teen, she played in a band and sang in a quartet on a radio program. She met Claude at the age of 10. They married in 1942 and were married for 73 yrs. After WWII and two children, they moved to Crestline, Ohio in 1948. Betty worked for the Northern Telephone Co and the Shelby Air Force Base. She was transferred to Kettering in 1960 to Defense Electronics Supply Center (DESC). She retired in 1976. Soon became a volunteer for Kettering Memorial Hospital (6,000 hrs), church and nursing homes. Was a devout member of the First Baptist Church of Kettering. A Sunday School teacher, member of the choir and Woman's Missionary Union (WMU). She loved God, country, family and friends. An avid reader, music lover, liked to crochet, bake, and made beautiful Christmas ornaments. Betty was a resident of the excellent Pristine Nursing Center of Jamestown. Our family can never express enough thanks and love to their administrators, nurses, aides, therapists and kitchen staff as well as cleaning and maintenance. They became extended family. Hospice of Dayton made certain Betty was comfortable, and covered any special needs. Pristine and Hospice also held our hands. May God be with you, in your service to so many individuals and their families. Thanks to family and friends, for their prayers and support. The family will receive friends from 10:00 - 12:00 am., Monday, October 2, 2017, at the Tobias Funeral Home, 5471 Far Hills Ave., at Rahn Rd., Kettering, Ohio 45429, followed by a funeral service at 12:00, with Floyd Hudson officiating.
