Calvin grew up in Johnstown, PA. He attended Maple Park Elementary, Cochran Junior High, and graduated from Johnstown High School, class of 1971.
Cal was a veteran of the Navy, and served a total of 5 years. He always was proud of his service. He served as a legal men on the USS Independence, and the USS Enterprise. He was able to travel to many different countries, including Greece, Tunisia, Italy, and the Vatican, where he had an audience with the Pope.
He attended Eastern Kentucky University and majored in Outdoor Education. He later graduated from United Theological Seminary with a Masters of Divinity. This set him up for a great career working with college students. Cal worked at the University of Dayton from 1989 and retired in 2012. This great career allowed Adam and Katybeth to attend UD and start their careers. After retirement, Cal became a charter bus driver and did long distance trips and enjoyed taking sports teams on various trips.
Cal enjoyed watching his granddaughters play basketball and dance recitals. His favorite job was being Pappy to them.
Cal loved the Lord and showed others by the way he lived. He was kind, loving, stubborn, and always liked a good joke.
He previously lived at Dayspring, in Fairborn for the last year. We appreciate the care they provided. The last 7 weeks were a courageous battle with a final diagnosis of a glioblastoma, a form of brain cancer. We want to thank the 11th floor Neuroscience ICU at Miami Valley Hospital, the Dayton Veterans Affairs Rehab unit, and the Victory Ridge Hospice house at the Dayton VA for their great care of Dad over the last 7 weeks. Dad’s final care is entrusted to Tobias Funeral Home at Far Hills.
He will always be in our hearts!
