Dall Herbert Miller age 93, loving husband, dad, grandpa, great grandpa, uncle and great uncle passed away peacefully into the arms of Jesus on the evening of April 3, 2022 with his wife Naomi and two sons, Randy and Ed, by his bedside. Dall was born in Glendale Springs, North Carolina on February 2, 1929 to parents Edd and Emma (Mash) Miller who preceded him in death. He was preceded in death by the following brothers and sisters; Syntha Miller, Fred Miller, Edna Mash, Al Miller, Ruth Mash, Carl Miller, Ella Miller, Robert Miller, Ida Mash, and Jackie Rourk.
Dall is survived by his wife of 65 years, Naomi (Timberman) Miller (Beavercreek, OH); sons, Ed (Kathy) Miller (Xenia, OH), Randy (Sandy) Miller (Xenia, OH); grandchildren Andy (Pam) Miller (Plain City, OH), Sean Miller (Xenia, OH), Adam Miller (Miamisburg, OH), and Kristina (Larry) Nelms (Miamisburg, OH); and great grandchildren Landon Miller, Keegan Miller, Olivia Miller, Eliyana Nelms, Amariya Nelms, Xavien Nelms and countless nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.
Dall moved to Ohio from North Carolina in 1947 to look for work. He found that work at National Cash Register in Dayton. In the fall of 1950, Dall answered the call to military duty by serving in the US Army. In the Army he attained the rank of Sergeant in the 7th Calvary Regiment, Company “E”, during the Korean War. Dall was critically wounded during front-line combat and received the Purple Heart and an honorable discharge in 1952. When he returned, he returned to NCR and accumulated nearly 30 years as an engraver in the Toolmaking Department until NCR moved its manufacturing out of Dayton. He then worked as a machinist for Wright Patterson Air Force Base in the model shop for another 15 years before retiring.
Upon moving to Ohio, Dall accepted Jesus as his Lord and Savior (fulfilling a promise he made to God on the battlefields in Korea, if God would spare his life and allow him to go home). Dall founded the Southern-Aires Quartet in 1955, along with Charles Feltner, Lee Feltner and Bob Michaels. Also in 1955, Dall met Naomi who would become his wife in late 1956 and she became the first piano player for the quartet. Dall and the quartet participated in the very first Southern Gospel Concert to ever be held in Jerusalem in October of 1970. In over 50 years plus, after the quartet’s formation, Dall and the quartet recorded many albums with numerous quartet members, many who passed on before Dall. The one thing that remained consistent over the years was Dall and the quartet traveling all over the mid-west singing in churches, concerts homecomings, festivals, reunions or wherever the “call” took them sharing the Gospel of Jesus Christ in music.
