

Daniel E. Hodapp, age 88 of Centerville, Ohio passed away Sunday, December 23, 2018 at Hospice of Dayton. He was born on August 24, 1930 to the late Ruey Hodapp Sr. and Ellen (Hamm) Hodapp and was a fourth generation Hodapp.
He was a lifelong resident of Dayton except for military time served in Illinois. Dan graduated from Fairview High School in 1948. Afterwards, he graduated from University of Cincinnati from the College of Business in 1953. Daniel was commissioned 2nd Lt., U.S. Air Force and served active duty at Chanute Air Force Base, Illinois as an intelligence and administrative officer and discharged as Captain in 1957.
Dan’s life changed when he met Dorsie Christine Turpen in Dayton (originally from Nancy, KY) on a double-blind date, and they married in Dayton, March 24, 1955. They became best friends for life. Dan and Dorsie moved back to Dayton so Dan could work at the Hodapp Law Office with his Father and Uncle, Dale Hodapp doing accounting and pursuing real estate investments. After Ruey Senior’s death in 1973, Dan and his brother, Ruey Jr., were business partners in primarily, commercial real estate properties in the Dayton area and timberland in Missouri and Florida.
While Dan raised his children in Centerville, OH he was a Scout Cubmaster, Centerville Rotary Member, as well as a member of other civic and school organizations. He continued his involvement in civic organizations while retired. Dan enjoyed playing tennis and a competitive game of table tennis with his children and grandchildren. He attended Southminister Presbyterian Church in Centerville. Dan passed on his love for the National Parks, love for country especially at the Fourth of July, service to a community and the local church. During High School, Dan and his older brother, Ruey Jr., spent their summers on a 33,000-acre cattle ranch outside of Trinidad, CO. Daily, they rode horseback with the ranch cowboys to herd cattle and repair fences. As a result, Dan developed a love for the West and Rockies and took his family on trips to visit the National Parks.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Dorsie Christine Hodapp in 2015.
Survivors include his 90-year-old brother, Ruey Hodapp Jr. of Dayton, OH. His surviving children include son, Thomas (Martha) Hodapp, Dayton, OH, daughters, Sharon Bostedt (Dan), Franklin, WI, Paula Mayer (Rick), Mequon, WI and Amy Wunderlin (Tom), Baltimore, MD; 10 grandchildren; a great grandchild as well as numerous in-laws, nieces and nephews from the Dayton and Somerset, KY areas.
Family will receive friends Saturday, January 5th, 2018 from 1:00 to 1:30 until the time of service at 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. at Woodland Cemetery, 118 Woodland Ave., Dayton, Ohio 45409.
