

After graduating from Chaminade High School in 1956, Dave enlisted in the Navy. He visited 15 countries in two years of active duty while serving as a quartermaster on the destroyer, Gainard. On his return, he was employed by Dayton Power & Light Company for 29 and a half years in Gas Engineering, Marketing, and as Supervisor of Gas Construction in Wilmington, Washington CH, Xenia and Fairborn. He then graduated from Sinclair College with a double major in Civil Construction and Architecture Engineering and was employed by Greene County for 11 years.
He was an active member of Zion Lutheran Church for 37 years, where he enjoyed singing in the choir, teaching Sunday School, serving as head usher, member of church council, building and call committees.
As a young man, Dave was a member of the Greater Dayton Jaycees, serving as VP of Youth Activities and as chairman of the Soap Box Derby. Dave sang for 19 years as a member of the Miami Valley Music Men Barbershop Chorus.
During his retirement years, he especially enjoyed volunteering at the Air Force Museum, daily workouts with friends at the Moraine Rec Center, singing with the Miami Valley Music Men, and with Zion’s Church Choir.
Dave was a family man who enjoyed spending time with his two daughters from Indian Princesses on. He was especially proud of their accomplishments. He enjoyed his grandchildren and their activities and taking them to Bill’s Donut Shop.
Dave and Cheryl enjoyed dancing together from the time of their meeting through their 50th anniversary, rearing their two daughters, and many good times spent traveling with family and friends. They are grateful to God for their 55 years together and for the support of family, church family, and friends, particularly during the past year.
In addition to his parents, Lucille and Russell Ebbers, Dave was preceded in death by his grandson, Alexander David Moots. He is survived by his loving wife, Cheryl; daughters Angi (Mark ) Moots, Chantel (Bob) Lenard; grandchildren Jacob Moots, Delaney Lenard and Miranda Lenard; sister, Seville Kemmerer; aunt, Virginia Stafford; nephews, nieces and cousins.
The family will receive relatives and friends from 5 to 8 PM on Friday, July 22, at Zion Lutheran Church, 5550 Munger Rd., Dayton, 45459. An additional visitation will be held from 12 Noon to 1 PM, with the memorial service following at 1 PM, on Saturday, July 23, at the church with Pastor John Mittermaier officiating.
