Dennis George Mathews, 72, of Miamisburg, Ohio passed away on December 8, 2020. Dennis was born in Washington, DC to George and Hildreth Mathews. At six months old, he moved to Dallas, Texas with his mother, father, his older brother and sister, Bruce and Lynn. At six years old, Dennis and his family moved to Detroit, Michigan where he grew up. Dennis was a talented artist, and his sister remembers watching the Flintstones with him, while Dennis would expertly draw the characters. As a family they would vacation in Rehoboth Beach, Delaware every summer, with his mother’s family. He loved being there and being spoiled by the family. He met his wife, Christine Mathews and they were married in 1970. He built a dune buggy from the ground up that Christine and he drove to Rehoboth Beach for their honeymoon. Dennis joined the Army Reserves where he served for six years and was honorably discharged. During his last year in the Army, his oldest daughter Lisa was born, followed by Kristie two years later. Dennis spent much of his time building a successful graphic design business called Graphic Services, Inc. He began this venture all on his own, working the company initially out of his basement, until he could rent an office space, and then build his own office building in Troy, Michigan. He supplied corporations such as Chrysler, General Motors and Car and Drive with the color separations for their advertisements. Dennis was a hard worker who believed in doing things right the first time, including making his bed every day. In his 30s, he bought a 1972 Lotus Élan that he stripped to the ground and rebuilt in his garage, on his own. Dennis was always the fun uncle, often teasing his nieces and nephews but most importantly loved to see his daughters smile with campouts in the backyard, trips to Kings Island, and traveling the world. He was always teaching his family things, everywhere they went. Dennis was full of knowledge and always took the time to share it with others. Dennis loved boating on the Great Lakes, and spent a lot of time doing it. His favorite place to relax was Palm Springs, California. He frequented his favorite restaurant, Mon Jin Lau where people loved to see his smile, and have him help them through their worldly problems. He enjoyed the last ten years of his life with his daughters, son-in-laws and grandchildren in Dayton, Ohio. He loved helping to raise his granddaughter Mia while always teaching his three grandchildren how to build Lego sets the correct way. He spent time at Luke, Olivia and Mia's soccer games and never hesitated to help out with them when asked. He was an avid computer builder and enjoyed educating himself about flying planes and building boats and cars. He recently took a solo train trip out west. He had so much love for the family miniature schnauzer, Ruby. His jokes were often inappropriate but you could not help but to laugh and roll your eyes at him. He is survived by his daughters, Lisa and her husband Brad; Kristie and her husband Jeff; grandchildren, Luke, Olivia and Mia; sister, Lynn Mathews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Christine, his parents and his brother, Bruce Mathews. A private celebration of life will be held at a later date.
