Don Miller, devoted husband, son, son-in-law, brother, brother-in-law, uncle, friend to many and a well-respected Lieutenant (retired) with the Dayton Fire Department, passed away at age 82, Tuesday May 27, 2025, at Hospice of Dayton after a courageous battle with cancer.
Don was born and raised in Dayton, Ohio to Claude and Olive (Rooker) Miller. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Ken, father-in-law Jerry Laffey, brother-in-law Tim Laffey, niece Lindsay Schlemmer, several aunts and uncles, and lifelong friend David Bockrath.
He is survived by his wife Kathy (Laffey), Mother-in-Law, Earlyne Laffey, sisters-in-law Joyce Miller, Laureen Laffey, Eileen Vagedes (Todd Bruner), Mary Beemsterboer (Dan), Brothers-in-law Jim Laffey (Debbie) and Mike Laffey (Laurie), Nephews, Jeff Miller (Liz), Robb Miller (Cindy), Scott Miller, Jerry Laffey (Jeni), Josh Vagedes, Luke Laffey, Nieces, Stacy Bush (Chris), Megan Laffey (Josh), Mia Beemsterboer, his cousins in IL and KY, several great nephews, great nieces, and great, great nephews and friends.
Don graduated from Wilbur Wright High School in 1961. He was a Vietnam Veteran, an avid fisherman, golfer and member of the Milton and Shamrock Athletic clubs.
Kathy would like to extend her gratitude to her and Don’s wonderful families and friends and the staff of Hospice of Dayton for their support and prayers. Don was a gentle giant and loved by many.
A celebration of life will be held at the Milton Athletic Club, 640 Cosler Drive, Dayton Ohio from 2:00 to 6:00 pm, Friday June 6, 2025. Don would prefer everyone to dress casual.
