She was a proud Texan and made sure everyone she met knew it. She started her lifelong passion for helping others at age 16 during World War II by driving a 2-ton truck for the Red Cross. Mother was also truly passionate about creating a great meal. Our house was the one on the block where all the neighborhood kids remember coming for her exotic meals which they still talk about today. She was also known for her sewing projects making many of our clothes, wedding dresses and beautiful blankets. She loved to read, with poetry being a special part of her life. She will be sorely missed by many loyal and dear friends, too many to count. The family would like to give special thanks to all the wonderful staff at St. Leonard's Senior Living Community, the caregivers from Home Instead and Hospice of Dayton for the loving care given to our mother. The family will receive friends from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. Thursday, October 15, 2015 at St. Leonard Chapel, 8100 Clyo Rd., Centerville, Ohio 45458, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 a.m. Doris will be buried beside her husband at the Dayton National Cemetery. A celebration of our mother's life will be held that same evening at the auditorium below the church at St. Leonard's from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. Friends and families are welcome to come.
