

BRIGHT, Dorothy “Karyl,” age 71, of Franklin passed away Thursday, May 26, 2011, after a 10-year battle with breast cancer. Karyl was born on June 13, 1939, in Harvey, Illinois to Benjamin A. and Mary Evalou Gilbert Olsen. Karyl’s family was the center of her life, enriched by her many dear friends. She is survived by her husband of 50 years, Terry G. Bright, OD.; her brother, Bruce Olsen; her son, Adam Bright, MD, his wife, Rose, and their children, Ben, Glenn, Blake, and Elizabeth; her daughter, Andrea Bright; and her son, Darrin Bright, MD, his wife, Gwen, and their daughters, Lexi and Molly. Karyl received her undergraduate degree in education from the Ohio State University and her master’s degree in education from Wright State University. She worked for 25 years at the Miami Valley School (MVS), where she led the early childhood program, served as admissions director, and completed her tenure as the lower school principal. The MVS family always had a special place in her heart. Over the years, Karyl was active in many organizations, including the PTO Council for Franklin City Schools, Girl Scouts, Warren County Regional Planning Commission, United Way, and the Presbyterian Church. The family thanks Hospice of Butler & Warren Counties and Manish Sheth, MD, and his staff for their care and compassion. Friends and family will gather to celebrate Karyl’s life on Saturday, June 4, 2011 from 2-4 p.m., followed by a memorial service at 4:00 p.m., at the TOBIAS FUNERAL HOME – FAR HILLS CHAPEL, 5741 Far Hills Ave. at Rahn Road, Dayton, Ohio 45429.
