

Ann Forsthoff, age 95, of Centerville, Ohio died on October 11, 2017 at home in the arms of her children. Ann joined the Army Nurse Corp as a First Lieutenant in June, 1944 and served until March 1946 at Fort Benjamin Harrison, Indianapolis, Indiana. She graduated from Miami Valley Hospital School of Nursing, Dayton, Ohio, in 1943. She worked as a Registered Nurse for 14 years for a pediatrician in Dayton, Ohio and retired in 1984. Ann was the wife of an active duty Army Officer, Charles, and for more than 20 years lived all over the United States and on Okinawa. She loved that life and all it stood for. Ann was an avid bridge player. She learned to play bridge when Charlie was attending graduate school at Princeton University. She played bridge with many wonderful bridge partners until her death. After retirement, she was an active volunteer at Miami Valley Hospital in Dayton, Ohio, and served on the Board of Volunteers. She was an active member of St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church, serving on the Bereavement Committee for many years. She was a member of the OWF-Ohio Wander Freunde (Volksmarch). Ann was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 49 years, Charles Forsthoff. She is survived by her 5 children, Susan Heidrich, Madison, WI, Jayne Farber (Charles) , Columbus, Indiana, Cynthia Forsthoff (Adrienne Parks), Huntington Beach, California, Barbara Drobnic (Duane), Johnstown, Ohio, and Timothy Forsthoff (Rhonda), Fenton, Michigan; grandchildren David Heidrich, Kelly Heidrich, Rob Goo, Jessica Beyerlein, Johnathan Goo, Rachel Ottavi, Michael Heimann, Sarah Wible, Mary Heimann, Hannah Ouellette, Lucas Forsthoff; great grandchildren Kyle May, Morgan Dicke, Jordan Carrillo, Alexis Carrillo, Henry Carrillo, Jackson Beyerlein, Ella Beyerlein, Madelyn Goo, Lincoln Goo, Emmersyn Goo, Tripp Hisle, Faithlyn Ouellette, Graham Ouellette, Ethan Ouellette, Charlotte Forsthoff, Owen Forsthoff, Nora Forsthoff; great-great grandchildren, Mila Johnson, Zaden Johnson, special cousin, Christina Haas, many nieces and nephews, and brother-in-law, Robert Forsthoff. Ann always knew everything her grandchildren and great-grandchildren were up to and asked about each of them with every phone call and visit. She was the matriarch of the family. They live all over the country but gathered every year to see her. Ann attributed her long life to her glass of red wine with dinner every night, but you had to pay her to get her to eat peas. At the end of her life, one of Ann’s greatest blessings and pleasure was her wonderful caregivers from Home Instead and Hospice of Dayton. Dayton, OH 45429 Monday, October 16, 2017 from 5 to 7 pm and Tuesday, October 17, 2017 at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church, 6245 Wilmington Pike Centerville, OH 45459 from 9:30 am until time of Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 am. Burial will be in Dayton National Cemetery at 2 pm.
