
She was preceded in death by her husband, Dale F. Schaffer, her parents Paul Dumlich and Gertrud Schirschwitz, and cousin Rosel Pohs.
Erika is survived by her daughter, Wendy K. McClurg (David), Bradenton, FL, son Kevin W. Schaffer, Lindenhurst, IL, granddaughters Erin E. and Meghan K. McClurg, Bradenton, FL.
Erika was born on March 12, 1925 in Patchkau, Germany. She came to the United States in 1949 and married Dale in 1951. Erika was extremely proud to have become a U. S. Citizen in 1954, and settled in America to raise her family. Eventually, Erika and Dale became snowbirds. After the death of Dale she became a full-time Floridian.
Erika was passionate about all she did. She became a full-time bowler, was a life-time member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Ladies Auxiliary, and a member of the Eagles Lodge 3171, Bradenton, FL.
The joy of her life was her family, particularly her granddaughters. Spending time with them shopping, cooking, swimming, and sewing as they were her top priority, and she loved them dearly. Gram Cracker will be in their memories forever.
Family will receive friends from 10:30-11:30 Wednesday, December 21st at Tobias Funeral Home, Dayton, OH. Mass will be at 12:00 noon at St. Albert the Great Catholic Church. Entombment will follow in the Woodland Mausoleum.
A memorial service will be held at the home of Wendy and David on January 14, 2012 from 2:00-4:00 p.m.
