

HADLEY, Eugene Frederick, born in Oak Park Illinois, June 21, 1934 the only son of Eugene and Elizabeth (Sampson) Hadley. Graduated from University of Illinois where he was affiliated with the Theta Chi National Fraternity. Following his college degree he began working for General Motors at the Electro Motor Division in La Grange Il. He was transferred to the Inland Division of General Motors in Dayton Ohio in 1958. He remained with General Motors Inland Division, initially in the Financial Staff and then in Purchasing, retiring in 1992, with 35 years of service. He met his wife, Mary Jane, while at the University of Illinois. They married in 1957. Gene was commissioned as an Army Reserve Officer and served on Active Duty for 6 months in 1961 during the Berlin Crisis. While on Active Duty he was an Executive Officer of the 318 Signal Company stationed in Fort George Meade, Maryland. Gene had a long term role with Boy Scout Troup 316 at Normandy Church in Dayton Ohio. He was a member of the Troup Committee and Scout Master for 3 years. Gene had a love of golf his entire life participating in the Dayton Industrial Athletic Association (DIAA) for all his working years. Following his retirement he was a member at Miami Valley Golf Club and the Inland Retirees Golf Group. His hobbies included HO Gauge model railroading and genealogy, organizing and adding to the Hadley and Welch family histories. He is survived by: his wife of 58 years, Mary Jane Welch Hadley, sons and their wives David and Jenifer, Jim and Pam, Mark and Lori and grandchildren, Matthew, Tyler, Emma, Christy and Katie. He is also survived by his sister Carole and her husband Jim Grimley and their children and grandchildren.
