
SEILER, Francis J. MD, age 80, died March 2, 2012 at Walnut Creek Nursing Center of complications from Parkinson’s Disease. Born Oct 18, 1931 in Dayton, Ohio, he was the son of the late Frank and Josephine Seiler. He was preceded in death by his sisters Marita Strattner and Vera McCarty. He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 53 years, Janet Scharf Seiler; his son James Seiler MD (Marie Seiler MD) of Kettering; his daughters Jeannie VanCuren (Bill) of Atlanta, GA; Julie Seiler MD (Gordy Meyers) of St. Paul, MN; Patty Judge (Chris) of Bellbrook; and Mary Malia (Van Malia DO) of Eden Prairie, MN. He is also survived by his thirteen grandchildren; Elizabeth, Rebecca, and Natalie Seiler; Brian, Brad and Justin VanCuren; Erica and Adam Meyers; Kevin, Ryan and Abby Judge; and Grace and Gavin Malia. Frank is survived by his sister Julie Krautmann of Kettering, brother-in-law Eric McCarty of Kettering, brother-in-law Jim Scharf (Joan) of Charleston, WV, brother-in-law John Scharf MD (Ruth) of Centerville, and many nieces, nephews, and loyal friends. He was an original member of St Charles Borromeo Church after having grown up as a member of St Anthony’s Church where he married Janet Scharf on Oct 4, 1958. Frank was a graduate of Chaminade High School in 1949, the University of Dayton in 1953, and St Louis Medical School in 1957. He did his medical internship at St. Elizabeth Hospital, Dayton before completing a residency in anesthesiology at the University of Minnesota. He returned to Dayton where he practiced anesthesiology at St Elizabeth’s for 31 years with his brother-in-law John Scharf MD. Frank was one of the first residency trained anesthesiologists in Dayton and was valued by surgeons for his expertise and professionalism. He was especially loved by his employees and his patients for the kindness and respect that he showed to all people. After Frank was diagnosed with Parkinson’s Disease over 20 years ago, he taught all of us how to live a full life with a debilitating illness. He faced every challenge with a strength and dignity that was truly inspirational. He never complained and he always counted his blessings. To all those who were lucky enough to know Frank, he was a kind and gentle man who loved his family above all else. He also treasured his time engaged in travel, skiing, hiking in the Colorado mountains and being at the farm. A very special thank you to all the kind nurses, aides and other caregivers at Walnut Creek who cared for Frank, especially Robin and Josa. The Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church, 4500 Ackerman Blvd., at 10:30 am Saturday, March 10th. Visitation will be on Friday March 9th at TOBIAS Funeral HOME- FAR HILLS CHAPEL, 5471 Far Hills Ave. at Rahn Rd., from 4 to7 pm.
