A talented, courageous, and big-hearted young man left his family and friends too soon on March 31st, 2022. Gabriel Philip Edmondson, born on Cinco de Mayo 1998 in Dayton, OH, was walking by 10 months of age and running soon after. As a child, he loved playing with his sister as her name "Cassie" was his first word. He loved school and had his photo published in the Dayton Daily News as a first grader while working on an original book about football that was being published as a hard cover book through an educational grant. His love of sports and natural athleticism propelled him through each season with a different sport: spring baseball, fall soccer, then fall football and winter basketball. His baseball career began at the age of six and evolved to select play 9U-16U where he played first base and outfield. While he did play baseball his freshman year, which included multiple home runs during the season, he didn’t return to competitive baseball until he was invited to join an independent league in Virginia. He took up his love of the sport again while serving his country as a very precise member of the firing squad performing burial ceremonies at Arlington National Cemetery in Washington, DC. He completed basic training for the United States Army at Fort Benning in Georgia. After training, he was stationed at Fort Myer where he joined “The Old Guard” Delta Company, 1/3 battalion, 3rd Infantry Regiment. During his service, he enjoyed going to the beach, playing flag football, fine dining, golfing with fantastic views of historical monuments and purchased his own car. Known to all as “Gabe”, his other interests included: loud music with lots of bass, collecting sports memorabilia and athletic shoes, Xbox One gaming, and watching sports. Gabe loved vacations with family at his New York grandparents' lake house in the Catskill Mountains and with family at his South Carolina grandparents' beachfront timeshare on Hilton Head Island. He learned to snowboard at Keystone in Colorado, and enjoyed the ski club in middle school. Thanksgiving and the Passover holidays were always spent in New York City with his mother's Levine side of the family surrounded by tradition, humor and lots of love. It also provided opportunity to visit favorite stores like Adidas, Nike and the Flight Club. Gabe is survived by his parents Greg and Susan Edmondson; sister Cassidy Edmondson; grandmother Dorothy Edmondson; grandparents Paul and Sondra Levine; aunts and uncles David and Anita Edmondson, Karen Levine, Mark Josefski, Michael Levine, Donna Gutkin; first cousins Alix Josefski, Hailey Edmondson, Quinn Edmondson, Simon Levine, and Miles Levine; and additional loving family. He was preceded in death by his grandfather Larry Edmondson who will receive him in heaven. Gabe sadly leaves behind many family and friends that will deeply miss his humor, his style, his warmth
and his acceptance of others.
Peace, love and thanks.
