Harold was born April 6, 1962, in Dayton, Ohio.
A 1980 graduate of Carlisle High School, he was known for his prowess both on and off the football field. In addition to being a member of the football team, he was also a state qualifier in wrestling, a member of the school choir, and Company C. He attended Hanover College for one year, where he continued his football career. As an adult, he played flag football for Oregon Express until a severe ankle injury ended his season, and he decided that he was “too old for this” His involvement with theater didn’t end after high school either. He was a member of Hometown Productions in Carlisle, performing in many shows, most notably as Tevye in Fiddler on the Roof. He also performed on stage at La Comedia Dinner Theatre and sang in the Emmanuel Lutheran Church choir.
He also coached his sons during their time with K-O Kids wrestling and served as an assistant coach with the Wee Wildcats football organization. Several years later, when his daughter was a cheerleader for the Wee Firebirds and football coach was needed, he stepped up to serve as head coach for 2 seasons. Along with coaching, he assisted his son with Boy Scouts, was a board member for the Wee Firebirds, and was involved with both the Kettering-Fairmont Athletic and Marching Band Boosters as his children grew up.
He recently worked as a project manager for Tribute Contracting, LLC, and will be missed by his co-workers and friends.
Harold was always full of surprises, especially when he obtained the status of Kentucky Colonel, as part of his recognition for rescuing puppies from a burning building. He was an avid Ohio State football fan and was always ecstatic when they defeated that team up north. And for better or worse, he was a faithful Cincinnati Bengals fan. He had also recently developed a fondness for good cigars and bourbon. Above all, he will be remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great friend. His faith in Jesus Christ was strong, and he made the decision at age 12 to be baptized in the Twin Creek on a cold spring morning.
Harold was preceded in death by his parents James and Kay Skaggs, and grandson, Kyle.
He leaves behind his loving wife of 32 years, Lisa; sons, Jeff (Lindsay); Allen (Lindsey); daughter, Kayla; grandchildren, Cooper, Cameron, Logan, Gweneth, Aiden, and Lillian; brother, Ralph Skaggs; nephew, Christopher; Life-long friends, Dave and Donna England, Jeff and Leslie Hood, Jeff and Mary Wyatt, Mark and Deana Mrusek, Bob and Wanda Jones; special cousin, Terry Skaggs, along with many other relatives and close friends.
Harold never met a stranger, and to know him was to love him.
The visitation will be held from 5-8pm, on Friday, February 20th at Emmanuel Lutheran Church, 4865 Wilmington Pike, Kettering, Ohio. An additional visitation will take place from 9:30-10:30am, on Saturday, February 21st at Emmanuel Lutheran Church, with the services to follow immediately.
