SNOW, Henry J. (Jim), age 86 of Dayton, whose redemption from the burdens of Alzheimer’s Disease was granted on Thursday morning October 2, 2014. Determined to the end…refusing to let go. Dad was the most giving, and forgiving person I will ever know. He was preceded in death by his parents Henry & Hazel Snow in the late 60’s, & wife of 52 years Patricia L. (Gross). Survivors include myself (son) Jim Snow (formerly of Walker Bros. & White-Allen) & Marcia Bechtel & her children Lindsay Cooper (Ted) & Aaron Bechtel (Courteney), sister, Nancy Jo Esper (Tom) of Washington C.H., nieces, Tammy Schepisi (Jerry), Linda Powers (Randy) & Susan Holloway (Mark), & nephew, Dan Esper (Renee). Dad was born in Columbus, grew up in Newark, Ohio a 1946 graduate of St. Francis High School. He came to Dayton in 1948, met Pat while at UD, married 1949, and graduated in 1951. He enlisted in the USAF, was stationed in Wichita & Las Vegas, then Korea & Japan (climbing Mt. Fuji). Returning stateside, he was joined by his wife in Wichita & Las Vegas. Following his Honorable discharge, he went to work at WPAFB, retiring in 1994 after 42 years. Dad was a huge UD Flyer Fan, a season basketball ticket holder for 58 years. Starting with CYO in 1970, he coached youth track & field, founding the South Dayton Flyers Track Club including X Country until 2008. He was installed into the Dayton Distance Running Hall of Fame in 2010. He was a lifetime music lover and supporter: from Big Band to Hard Rock & Jazz. He was with us at the clubs every night. Dad touched many lives in both the sports & music worlds. But most of all – he dedicated his life to his family: Mom & I. An overwhelming Thanks to all the caregivers at Brighton Gardens for the last 2½ years, & Crossroads Hospice for their loving care. Friends may call from 5:00 to 7:30 p.m. Monday October 6, 2014 at the TOBIAS FUNERAL HOME - FAR HILLS CHAPEL, 5471 Far Hills Ave., Dayton, Ohio 45429, with a Celebration of Jim’s Life at 7:30 p.m. If desired memorial contributions may be given to the Alzheimer’s Association, Crossroads Hospice and UD Athletics Fund.
