

BRENNAN, James M., age 91 of Beavercreek Township, passed away on Friday, August 19, 2011. He is preceded in death by his parents, George W. and Anastasia L. Brennan; 5 brothers, Francis, Thomas, Edward, Robert and infant stillborn brother; 2 sisters, Mary Brennan and Anastasia Bagenstos. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Mary M. (Hotopp) Brennan of Beavercreek Township; 3 daughters, Sharon (Bob) Gemin of Beavercreek Township, Susan (Alan) Yeoman of Jamestown, Sheila Copeland Keller of Beavercreek; grandchildren, Paul (Rike) Gemin, Gregg (Samantha) Gemin, Ed Gemin, Jennifer (Drew) McCamis, Jessica (Kevin) Flaute, Amanda Copeland, Joey Keller; great-grandsons, Evan and Liam McCamis, Owen Flaute; brother, Bill (Margaret Ann) Brennan. He was a 1938 graduate of Chaminade High School, was retired from Sears Roebuck after 30 plus years of service and was a member of the Sears retiree club. He was a WW II veteran serving in the United States Navy where he was a Chief Quartermaster on board the U.S.S. Pillsbury D.E., U.S.S. Guadalcanal Task Group 22.3, capturing, on June 4, 1944, the German U-boat 505. This was the first war vessel captured by the U.S. Navy since 1815 as an aftermath of the war of 1812. He was a member of VFW Post 5 in Dayton, Ohio and a member of St. Brigid Catholic Church in Xenia. Prayers will be held 9:45 a.m. on Wednesday, August 24, 2011 at the TOBIAS FUNERAL HOME – BEAVERCREEK CHAPEL, 3970 Dayton-Xenia Rd. at Grange Hall Rd. Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 10:30 a.m. at St. Brigid Catholic Church, 312 Fairground Rd., Xenia Fr. John Krumm celebrant. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery.
