

McNiel, James Monroe,age 91, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on September 30, 2014. He was born December 17, 1922, in Grand Bay, Alabama, to James Nathaniel and Ruby Lee McNiel. Growing up in Grand Bay, James left for college to go to Texas College of Arts and Industry (Texas A&I), Kingsville, Texas, where he met and then married Doris Nix on July 29, 1945. James served as a pilot in the U.S. Air Force for 21 years, moving throughout the nation before settling in Beavercreek, Ohio where he worked for the Department of Defense for 20 additional years at Wright Patterson Air Force Base until retirement. James loved to ski, golf, sail, camp, fish, travel, and watch the birds visiting his gardens. Above all, James had a deep faith in God, continued throughout his life to be active in his church, and always nurtured the growth of his family. James loved and took great joy in his wife, Doris, his 6 children, 11 grandchildren, and 11 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his son, Larry McNiel. James is survived by his wife, Doris, his children Bruce McNiel (Donna), Linda Jungwirth (Gary), Marty Welch (Bill), Paul McNiel (Suzanne), Philip McNiel (Debbie), and grandchildren Jason McNiel, Kimberly Volpe, Melissa Salyer, Paul Jungwirth, Phillip Jungwirth, Scott Jungwirth, Nathan McNiel, Rebekah VanBuskirk, Sarah Bricker, Joshua McNiel, and Abigail McBride, and great grandchildren Sydney McNiel, Owen McNiel, Jessica Volpe, Sophia Volpe, James Jungwirth, Miriam Jungwirth, Sophia Jungwirth, Grant Jungwirth, Bradley Jungwirth, Lucy Jungwirth, and Eli VanBuskirk. Funeral services will be 10 AM Saturday, October 4, 2014 at the East Dayton Baptist Church, 1380 Spaulding Rd. Pastor Brian Kershaw officiating, Interment Valley View Memorial Gardens. Friends may call at the TOBIAS FUNERAL HOME-BEAVERCREEK CHAPEL, 3970 Dayton-Xenia Rd. at Grange Hall Rd. from 5:30-7:30 PM Friday, October 3, 2014.
