ROBEY, James C. passed away peacefully on Sunday, November 25, 2012. He was 81. Born Sept 19, 1931 to Gladys and George Robey of Columbus, OH, Jim grew up in a family that spent much of its time outdoors. He especially treasured father / son fishing trips and hunting with his brother, George II, and their dog, Major. Jim was fortunate to usher in his teenage years living at Scioto Lakes Fishing Club, a retreat for fishing and outdoor enthusiasts managed by his father. While pursuing his Bachelor’s Degree in Wildlife Management at OSU, Jim enrolled in the Army ROTC. Upon graduation he served two years in the Field Artillery Branch. His military service completed, Jim returned to Columbus where he met and soon married the love of his life, Donna Wiggins. The couple lived briefly in Florida but returned to Dayton, OH so Jim could take a job as Outdoor Writer for the Journal Herald. After more than a decade of enjoying life as husband and wife, they had their first and only child, a daughter named Kelly in whom Jim instilled his love of nature. Jim was a great storyteller and Kelly recalls many of her childhood stories being infused with themes and lessons from the natural world. Jim’s 30+ year writing career as columnist, book author and frequent contributor to outdoor publications was marked by numerous awards. Jim will most be remembered for his extraordinary kindness and steadfast devotion to loved ones. Jim is survived by his wife of 54 years, Donna; daughter, Kelly; brother, George as well as numerous nieces, nephews, family and friends. Jim’s family would especially like to thank John Schiller, Jack Glaser, Donna and Tom Zobrist and Carol and Bill Hill for their extraordinary support and friendship. The family will receive friends at TOBIAS FUNERAL HOME-FAR HILLS CHAPEL, 5471 Far Hills Avenue at Rahn Road, Dayton, Ohio 45429, Saturday, December 8, 2012, from 11:00 a.m. until time of service at 1:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to The Hospice of Dayton, 324 Wilmington Ave., Dayton, Ohio 45429 or Ducks Unlimited.
