Jana Lynn McCroskey, a beloved mother, sister, daughter, friend, and so much more, passed away on May 9, 2025, at the age of 64. Jana was born in Dayton, Ohio, on February 3, 1961, to William (“Bill”) McCroskey, Sr., and Carolyn McCroskey (Parr). She grew up with her three brothers, Bill, Jeff, and Todd, and her cousin, Lisa, who was more like a sister. Jana grew up in Trotwood, Ohio, and attended Trotwood Madison schools from kindergarten through 12th grade, graduating from Trotwood Madison High School in 1979. A number of friends she made as a youth became her lifelong friends. She was an excellent swimmer and involved in competitive and AAU swimming during her adolescent and teenage years. The main events she competed in were the butterfly and breast stroke.
In 1985, she started as a temporary customer service representative with the First National Bank of Dayton, working in downtown Dayton. She ultimately was hired on as a customer service rep and quickly rose through the ranks in customer service in the banking and mortgage industries. She worked for the First National Bank of Dayton, National City Bank, National City Mortgage Company, and PNC Mortgage Company. Jana went from being a temporary customer service rep to a customer service rep to a team lead to a supervisor to an assistant vice president to a vice president. She was a Vice President at PNC Mortgage when she had to stop working in 2018 for health reasons. Over the course of her approximately 33-year career, there were many people (too many to name) who she befriended and who became special people in her life. There were many people whom she left an indelible mark on, and who left an indelible mark on her. She was also a mentor to many in her work life.
Jana gave birth to her only child, her son Blake, in December of 1988. When she was not at work, she put almost all of her time and energy into him. She made many sacrifices and always put him first. She was an incredibly devoted and selfless mother. When he was growing up, Jana spent much of her free time at Blake’s various sporting events (which seemingly never ended). She was a major support to him during his K-12 education, college, and law school. They shared a love and bond that can’t adequately be put into words. A love and a bond that even death can’t break.
In her spare time, Jana loved to spend time with her son, family, friends, and her dog Penny. She loved watching her shows on TV and Netflix. She was a big fan of the Cincinnati Bengals and watched their games most Sundays during football season. She’ll be remembered for her friendship, kindness, work ethic, grit, resilience, intelligence, and selflessness.
Jana was survived by her son, Blake McCroskey, her mother, Carolyn McCroskey, her brothers, William (“Bill”) McCroskey II (Lori), Jeffrey McCroskey (Maureen), and Todd McCroskey, her cousin, Lisa Hubler-Brockert, her nieces and nephews, Austin Brockert, Colleen McCroskey, Matthew McCroskey, Sean McCroskey, and Sarah McCroskey, her cousins, Steven Parr, Mark Parr, Lydia Parr, Sydney Parr, and Colin Parr, and her friends, Amy Goldman, Judy Brown, Wahli Demmings, Regina Hemp, and Brandy Moore, among many others. She was preceded in death by her grandson, Blake McCroskey II, her father, William McCroskey, Sr., her aunt, Corky Hubler, her uncle, Thomas Hubler, her uncle, Floyd (“Sonny”) Parr, and her aunt, Ann Parr.
Services for Jana will be held on May 31, 2025, at Woodland Historic Cemetery and Arboretum in Dayton, Ohio, at the Mausoleum Chapel. Visitation will begin at 11:00 a.m. and will take place from 11:00 a.m. to noon. Her celebration of life will begin at noon. A procession to place her in her final resting place at Woodland Cemetery will immediately follow her celebration of life. Following this, we will have a funeral reception with food and drinks at 320 Cushing Avenue, Dayton, Ohio 45429, which will begin at 2:00 p.m. Everyone is welcome.
“I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, and I have remained faithful.”
