Joan Brigid Mangan-Boles was born in Xenia, OH, on September 11, 1966, and passed away on January 6, 2026 - the Feast of the Epiphany. She is survived by her dedicated husband, Jack (Jackie G) Boles; her daughter, Brianne Perry and cherished grandchildren “Lovie” (Hartley), “B” (Braxton) and “Jax” (Jackson) Perry; her father, Neil Edward (and stepmother, Ladonna) Mangan; seven siblings: Thomas (Lynetta Crum) Mangan, Catherine (Timothy) Montavon, Ann Hurley, Amy Mangan, Elizabeth (Steven) Hamilton, Patricia (Gary) Rettig, Philip (Joell) Mangan; and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews all of whom will cherish forever the time they had with Joan (JoJo, Joanie B, JB, Aunt Joan).
Joan was preceded in death by her mother, Mary Patricia Mangan, and nephew, James (Jimmy) Mangan Hagler.
In 2004, Joan completed her 20+ year Air Force career which included a deployment to Operation Iraqi Freedom (Oman and Djibouti Africa) and assignment at the following duty stations: Reese AFB, TX; Geilenkirchen Air Base Germany; University of Cincinnati Air Force ROTC, OH; Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, OH; Hurlburt Field, FL; and Eglin AFB, FL. Joan received numerous military awards and commendations including Honor Graduate, Distinguished Graduate, and Military Personnel Flight Non-Commissioned Officer of the Year. Her military decorations include: Meritorious Service Medal, Joint Commendation Medal and the Air Force Commendation Medal with four oak leaf clusters. Since 2008, Joan served as the Executive Assistant to the Chairman at the Wright State University Boonshoft School of Medicine Department of OB/GYN. The Chairman recently shared with family that Joan was a trusted advisor and helped run the department with precision and care; her knowledge, wisdom, kindness and commitment to their educational mission were invaluable and her loss will be difficult to overcome.
Joan would almost certainly say her most important and rewarding roles were related to family, especially as wife, mother and grandmother. Her dedication to family was unrivaled and her grandchildren will remember “JoJo” as their forever champion, fervent cheerleader and family historian.
Though her family, friends and co-workers feel she left this world too soon, they are grateful Joan lived a good life right up to her last act of generosity and kindness before she passed. If you wish to honor the life of Joan Brigid Mangan-Boles, her family invites you to commit wholeheartedly to one of the following:
