John Regis (Jack) Braun Jr. retired from life peacefully at the age of 90 in his sleep after a brief stay in Hospice surrounded by family members. Jack was born on November 21, 1935, in Dayton Ohio to John R Braun and Estelle (Sweeney). He was the oldest son with 5 siblings and had many fond memories of his childhood. Jack married the love of his life Marilyn (Schweller) on September 28th 1963, and they welcomed 11 children.
He retired from DESC after a long career as an electrician. Additionally, he retired from the naval reserves after a 30-year career. He was a Fourth Degree Knight of Columbus (and had a great sword and hat).
Above all else, Jack was a devoted family man. He and Marilyn were married for 62 years and in addition to their 11 children they had 24 grandchildren and 26 great grandchildren. For many years he realistically played St. Nicholas for countless children. He was an active leader with the Boy Scouts of America and was loved by everyone who met him.
He is survived by his wife Marilyn and his children, Angela Peters, Chris (Kim), Joe, Mary, Irene Gulbransen (Eddie), Jeanine McDade (Bill), Tim, Theresa Spewock (Joseph), Matt, Alice Reath (Mike), Ben (Jen), 24 grandchildren, 26 great grandchildren, who lovingly referred to him as “happy” or “pops”. He is also survived by his sister, Pat Schauer (John) & brother Gerald. He is preceded in death by his parents John & Estelle, siblings Joyce Schulze, Eleanor Braun, & Martha Kunkle, and son in law Steve Peters.
Jack was an enthusiastic eater, liked pirates, believed in mermaids, and appreciated a good joke. Jack loved his pipe & cigars and always had a funny story to regail others with. He never took fashion advice from anyone, nor did he quit on a garment that was remotely functional. Jack was an astute collector of everything and never threw anything away. Jack never met a stranger, and the world is now less with him gone.
As Jack always said when he finished speaking with you, “Over and Out”
