

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Richard Eugene Hurley; her parents, Robert and Grace Morningstar; her sisters, Jill Armstrong and Judy Keyer; and her grandson, Jeffrey Armstrong.
Joy is survived by her loving children: Loree Bowman; Todd (Karen) Hurley; and Ginger (William) Martin. She also leaves behind her cherished grandchildren: Timothy Armstrong, Jack Hurley, Alexander Krznarich, Ashley (Dylan) Cook, Lizetta Bowman, and Raya Bowman; and her great-grandchildren: Timothy Armstrong Jr., Lillien Armstrong, and Roman Cook. She is further survived by her sister-in-law, Barbara Freeman, along with many cousins and dear loved ones.
Joy was a proud graduate of Beavercreek High School and later dedicated many years of service working in the Beavercreek High School cafeteria until her retirement. She truly loved being part of the school community, taking delight in knowing and serving the many students.
The love of Joy’s life was her husband, Richard Eugene Hurley. They were married on August 26, 1962, and shared 52 wonderful years together until his passing on November 4, 2014. Together, they built a life centered on family, love, and adventure. They enjoyed camping, traveling, and taking cruises, and were truly inseparable.
Joy had a passion for crafts, including painting, stained glass, and crocheting. She was a kind and loving woman who left a lasting impression on all who knew her.
In her later years, Joy resided at the Springfield Masonic Community, a place she lovingly called home. She often shared with her family how much she loved living there and wished she could have shared it with her husband.
She will be deeply missed and forever remembered for her warmth, kindness, and the love she gave so freely. Her memory will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.
Memorial services will be held at 1 pm on Saturday, May 23, 2026, at the Tobias Funeral Home – Beavercreek Chapel. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 11 am – 1 pm on Saturday, May 23. Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.
